Halisahar is the land of rich culture and communal harmony. From the historical past Hindu, Muslims and other religious followers are living here boasting of perfect feelings of mutual love and respect. This is a place of many legends, mythological beliefs.

The place is known for the Charak Puja organized here, mainly in the factories-Jute mills area. Interesting fairs are arranged during the festival days with special occasions called Shiver Gajan. During the March-April period visitors from in and around crowd the place to relish this tradition festival of the Shaivaratries (followers of Shiva).

In the June-July period Ratha-Yatra Utsav is organized in Halisahar with much pomp. A brass chariot (ratha), 80 years old is used in this festival to carry the God Rashbehari Jiu. Fairs are arranged in this festival too.

More than 200 years ago, Vidhyadhar Choudhury, descendent of Sabarna Choudhury- the famous zamindar of Bengal made on God’s order an idol of Sri Krishna and from then on this idol is worshipped as ShyamRay. During the Dol Yatra Utsav in the month of March worshipping of ShyamRay with much grandeur is carried on.

Also there is a lot of Durga Puja organized here by the general public. The Pujas of the Mitras’ of Kona and the Patras’ of Shyamasundaritala are of the oldest. The Puja of Rudrabhairavitala Barwari too is around 100 years old.

The people of Halisahar have really taken interests in art and dramas. At first, Pramadan Natyasamaj by the people of Khasbati, then Prativa Natyasamiti and then Young Men’s Dramatic Association came up one after another from the beginning of the 20th century. Another group came up with the name of Ate Theater Group. Another small group too came up called Suwrid Sangha.

Halisahar got Eastern Zone overseas Communication Service center in the year 1950.

The first Post Office came up in the year 1954; it was connected by Telephone by 1955.
